Our Poster
City Breaks was launched at the HIAP (Helsinki International
Artists-in-residence Programme) studios in Cable Factory, the base
of the British participants during their research trip to Helsinki.
The event functioned as a one-day exhibition, not unlike the launch
at Whitechapel Project Space earlier in the Autumn, presenting the
concept of the project, some previous works by the artists as well
as some material that gave a taste of the ongoing investigations.
In addition to many local insights that helped these
explorations further, the exchanges of the evening openned up a
possible collaboration with a new window gallery, which could function
as a satellite exhibition space in Helsinki at some point during
the project.
SAT 11.12.04
Dinner at Sea Horse Taru, Simo, Abigail, Chris and Isaac.
SUN 12.12.04
Launch at HIAP studios, Cable factory.
WED 15.12.04
Visit to MUU gallery with everyone first more concrete talk
about the exhibition, particularly the use of the gallery space.
The group also checked out the window gallery that could be used
as a satellite space for one of the exhibition. Dinner at HIAP studios
where each artist presentated their research so far and plans for
MUU. The exciting possibilities and the scope of the project became
tangible as the wealth of different approaches, materials and critical
concerns emerged from the individual processes, their points of
contact and the joint discussions. Minna emphasised the importance
of this discussion in helping her to develop her work to the final
form it got in the exhibition at MUU.
THU 16.12.04
Another improvised dinner at the studios with an urgent goal of
taking pictures for the poster. Based on rather vague plans the
team managed to pull together a pin board mapping of the project
that everyone was very pleased with.
